Hi,
I have just brought one of my horses back into work and she's going quite well. I would like to put her in competition/shows but she's not registered. I have only ever competed on a registered horse and alot of the paperwork was done for me by the horses owner/my instructor. Which disciplines allow you to compete unregistered and what are the rules they normally bide by for the unregistered horses? She has potential but I would really like to know before I do any more training with her. What would be the best go for trying to trace up her past as we dont really know her previous owners, numbers or addresses? |

Does your mare have any stud brands on her at all? If so it may be possible to trace her breeders and see if she can be registered. If not, I would imagine it would be very hard to track her breeding down in order to see if she can be registered.
Plenty of shows have non-breed specific classes. As your instructor as I'm sure he/she will be able to find suitable classes for your mare in your local area.

No she does not have any stud brands on her, that's the first thing I looked for. There are quite a few horses that I have seen that are the spitting image of her though, with a few minor differences.
I have recently moved and my new instructor has suggested me to put her straight into a Dressage competiton, taking place end of next month. He said for lower levels she won't need registeration. I was told though, through open classes I would have to shave her legs, and I really do not wish to do that? Is it true. This was not told from my instructor but a former competitor. |

hi. would be best for you to ask whoever is running the events you wanna show in what the rules are. not sure about the shaving the legs thing. i have competed in a few open classes and havent had to do so. i have only entered lower level dressage comps (mainly ag shows) so i cant really offer any advice about if she needs to be registered or not.
